Domain Registration
There are fees
associated with developing an Internet web site that are not included
in the initial design process. These are charged by the organizatin who registers your unique domain name. The fees range from roughly $15 per year and can go up to $35 per year depending on where you register the domain. You can register multiple domain names and have the extra names redirect to one main web url. Make sure that you do not let your domain expire if it is a desireable name. You may have difficulty getting it back if it goes to the open market. Some times domain brokers will snap up a name and hold it for ransom. I have been using directNic for all my domain registrations for mutliple years. They are reliable and offer great and consisten pricing.

Some web hosting firms or web design firms will advertise
that the domain name registration is "free." We
all like to get a deal and get something for free, but is it really
free or have they build the registration cost into other areas,
or, will you just see a reduction in customer service as an off-set
to so called freebies. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't check
out the freebies, just be wary and look at the total picture.
Another domain registration company that has been showing great progress is www.GoDaddy.com. Today they are the number 1 domain registation company. Several of my clients use Go Daddy and are very happy with the results. Check them out here. GoDaddy.com Hosting Plans
Hint1: Ask the person who registers your domain to make
sure that the domain is registered in your name and that you are
listed as the owner. I have seen cases where the site designer
or host has registered the domain in their name. This can cause
complications if you should decide in the future to change your
host or web designer.
Hint2: Protect your domain from automatic transfers to another hosting service. Do not be fooled by letters that you may receive telling you that your domain is about to expire. Check with your IT professional or web developer prior to transferring your domain to make sure that you are not under a scam.
